We at CoOp Dojo spent more in arcades growing up than we care to admit.  We defined the value of malls by the presence of arcades (seriously, Galleria in Dallas, WTF?  No arcade?  Take a note from Valley View up the road – they’re loaded!).

Point is, we gladly spent hours and significant time with these titles and are thrilled to revisit them in our Retro Gaming Gallery below.  Enjoy!

Crackdown

We were so excited when Crackdown for the Xbox was announced until we found out later it was totally unrelated to this arcade gem.  Somehow this game disappeared without sequel despite being omnipresent at any arcade in the early 90s (like Narc or Smash TV).  And giving Double Dragon 3’s surprise villain a run for her money (and apparently Cleopatra was loaded as you can see in that video below), Crackdown raises the ante a bit by introducing satan as the final boss in the last cutscene.  Check it out!

Die Hard

What in the world happened here?  Why can’t anyone make a good Die Hard game?  This one arrived apparently in the glorious time of polygon characters of Virtua Fighter or Resident Evil 1.  We really don’t know if we’re the terrorists in this or not.

Moonwalker

All right, it’s time.  We’ve been waiting for this one for a while.  After this experience, you’re gonna want to shower for like a week.  Somehow, despite how horrific this really is when you think it through, you can’t help but enjoy the game.

Crime City

In a blatant rip-off of Lethal Weapon, two cops take the city to stop a criminal mastermind.  And to think it all starts from a midnight drunk dial between two buddies.

Alien Storm

Alien Storm is a strange (slightly forgettable) Sega arcade beat-em-up from 1990.  It doesn’t age well as you can see below, but if you stick around it does the MDK trick of a wacky ending with a bizarre song.  Worth the trip just once.

Double Dragon 3

Double Dragon is a property near and dear our hearts.  The original two were undoubtedly great (despite being remarkably different) on both the arcade and NES platforms.  Then Double Dragon 3 shows up and is a total disaster.  They introduced a terrible gimmick to let you buy upgrades for your characters through more quarters just highlighted how much Taito appreciates the fans of the series.  The game is almost saved though by the final showdown against a surprise villain from history — we didn’t see it coming, did you?
