Man of Steel 2 postponed, probably for the best
When it was announced last summer that Man of Steel 2 was already in production, a lot of super hero fans got a little nervous. After all, Man of Steel had done well but it made a few stumbles (the demolition derby in Metropolis being chief among them) and we wondered whether the writers and director had given themselves enough time to process what they learned before moving forward. In a word, it seemed a little rushed!
It makes sense, though, given what we’re hearing about this next Superman movie linking directly to a Justice League movie. The rumors now suggest that Man of Steel will end in a cliffhanger that will set up the Justice League movie. If that’s the case, then minimizing the distance between the next Superman movie and the Justice League movie is a priority (there’s nothing worse than an extended cliffhanger). It sounds like they’re playing a bigger game than just making Superman movies and are attempting to use the Superman movies to launch a wider variety of Superhero franchises. If that’s true, that means we can look forward to another two years of casting news for characters like Green Lantern and Flash (and maybe even Aquaman??) who can appear in Justice League before launching their own standalone movies. Waiting an extra year for those pieces to be in place makes a lot of sense, especially since 2016 is only three years after the first Man of Steel movie.
So instead we will have to content ourselves with the other movies of 2015, including Avengers 2, Mad Max, Jurassic World, Ant Man, Assassins Creed, a new Bourne movies, a new Fantastic Four movie, the next Terminator, maybe a new James Bond movie, Mission Impossible movie, Hunger Games movie, and of course the next Star Wars. I hope we have money left over (and haven’t had our hearts broken too many times) in 2016.
Meanwhile, those of us at the Dojo will continue to imagine the inimitible Ben Affleck as the caped crusader. Check out our video here.
